My apologies about the assignment last night being a little unclear. We went a head and talked about archetypes you found, but we'll delay the hero's journey comparison for now. Tomorrow you will be filling out a informational packet for your Summer Reading. Be sure to review your book tonight and any notes you might have taken. You should expect the packet to take you the entire class period to complete.
The main points to review tonight:
Symbols - objects, characters, figures, and colors used to represent abstract ideas or concepts.
Themes/Main Ideas - the fundamental and often universal ideas explored in a literary work.
Motifs - Motifs are recurring structures, contrasts, and literary devices that can help to develop and inform the text’s major themes.
Plot Progression (Plot Diagram)
Figurative Language - a word or phrase that departs from everyday literal language for the sake of compairson, emphasis, clarity, or freshness. Metaphor and simile are the two most commonly used figures of speech, but things like hyperbole, puns, and personification are also figures of speech. (Check out this link for a fun example of figurative language - Will Ferrell)
